Saype in Giverny, a tribute to Claude Monet
From June 19 to 25, 2026, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Claude Monet’s death, Saype will create a monumental ephemeral artwork in Giverny, inspired by the world of the master of Impressionism.
Installed in the very landscape that gave birth to the famous Water Lilies, this giant fresco painted on grass invites visitors to take a fresh look at Monet’s artistic and environmental legacy. Through his contemporary visual language, Saype creates a dialogue between art, nature, and the memory of a place that has become iconic around the world.
A giant fresco painted on grass
Like all of his monumental creations, this artwork is painted directly onto the ground using a biodegradable paint specially developed by the artist. Made primarily from chalk and charcoal, this environmentally friendly paint respects local ecosystems and gradually disappears under the effects of weather and natural grass regrowth.
This unique technique makes it possible to create monumental frescoes visible from the air while minimizing their impact on the environment.

A self-financed project
This artwork is entirely self-funded by Saype. From the initial artistic concept to the production of the final piece, every aspect of the project is carried out without public funding or dedicated sponsorship, reflecting a commitment to preserving complete creative freedom.
This approach is in keeping with the artist’s projects around the world, where artistic vision, human engagement, and independence remain at the heart of every creation.
A warm welcome from Giverny
The realization of this artwork has been made possible thanks to the logistical support of the Town of Giverny, which has accompanied the project throughout its implementation and public presentation.
Saype would like to express his sincere gratitude to the Municipality of Giverny, its staff, and all the local partners and stakeholders whose support and commitment have helped make this project possible.
