The mural depicts a child playing with Kapla blocks, small wooden planks that have been a part of the childhood of many adults around the world, including Saype himself. Through his work, Saype seeks to emphasize the importance of coming together for a common purpose, acknowledging Mississauga’s intertwined history and celebrating its unique cultural makeup.
In this artwork, the block house symbolizes our planet: a fragile and expanding world, constantly evolving. Each piece of wood, carefully placed by the child, represents the importance of every individual and every action in building a shared future for Canada. The artwork contrasts sharply with the modern skyscrapers surrounding the park, highlighting the simplicity of childhood and the humanity at work amidst Mississauga’s growing urban development.
For Saype, this creation embodies the cooperation and solidarity essential to building a thriving community for all. “Working together is the key to building a sustainable and beneficial future for everyone,” says the artist. Through this play, he invites us to reflect on how even the smallest actions can shape a better world.
