SUZU CITY
An ephemeral artwork for a city rebuilding itself
In Suzu, Saype will create a monumental work on the ground as part of 24h TV "Loves saves the earth", Nippon Television's annual charity programme. Created over 24 hours, the artwork will bring together Saype, Japanese artist and performer Takanori Iwata, Ayako Imoto and the people of Suzu.
As with Saype's wider practice, the work will be temporary. Made with environmentally responsible paint, it will gradually disappear, returning to the landscape from which it emerged. But the image is not meant to last forever.
Its message is :
In a city marked by disaster, disappearance becomes a way of speaking about resilience, memory and renewal.
